About this tool
Choose a target date and time, or enter hours, minutes and seconds. The display shows days, hours, minutes and seconds remaining, recalculated four times a second so the seconds never drift.
The running countdown is saved in localStorage, so refreshing the page or closing the tab briefly does not reset it. Press Pause to freeze the remaining time, or Reset to clear the saved state.
How to use it
- Pick a modeUse Target date for an absolute deadline, or Duration for a relative timer. Switching modes is disabled while the countdown runs.
- Start the clockPress Start. The button becomes Pause, and the title bar shows the remaining time so it is visible from other tabs.
- Resume after a refreshReload the page and the timer restores itself, whether it was running or paused. Reset clears the saved countdown.
Common questions
Does the countdown keep running in the background?
Yes. It stores an end timestamp rather than counting ticks, so the remaining time is correct even if the tab was suspended.
What happens when it reaches zero?
The display stops at zero, the status line announces that time is up, and a short chime plays if the countdown was started in this tab.
Is the saved countdown shared between devices?
No. It lives in this browser’s localStorage and never leaves your device.
